Can Love be Stronger than Death?

“Love is as strong as death, its jealousy unyielding as the grace. It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame. Many waters cannot quench love; rivers cannot wash it away.’ Song of Solomon 8:6-7

My first word uttered when I read this was WOW.  It resonated through my mind and heart in such a powerful way that it left its imprint.  Love is not an attribute but the very essence of nature. It’s such a strong emotion that it sometimes leaves us breathless, off-balance and extremely happy. I’m only talking about the good side of love not the one that can be twisted and mis-used.  I’m thinking about the love that connects the mind, body and soul. The love that stays strong even after death. My father died when I was seven years old, which was many, many years ago, but when I think of him today, I still feel the surge of love that has grown from when I was a child to me being adult. I remember the good times, when he would put me in his lap and let me steer the wheel of the car so I could pretend I was driving or when he would carry me on his shoulders. I remember the visits to the country store in our small southern town buying strawberry ice cream cones.  Since I don’t have any pictures of him, it’s hard sometimes to remember what he looked like  but I see the fleeting images of his smile, his twinkling eyes and I hear the sound of his strong deep voice. Yes, I believe that love is stronger than death.   What about you?

Yes, Renee. I believe love is stronger than death. I think love is the strongest emotion. It explains why we do some of the silly things we do.
